The Scorpio Full Moon on May 6 is the annual Festival of the Buddha, also known as WESAK. It honours both the physical birth of the Buddha and his spiritual birth or enlightenment. In esoteric literature this Festival is the time when the Buddha returns to remind us of the possibility of awakening or enlightenment. It is a time to refocus on our spiritual lives and look at what needs to be released or let go, so we can become more compassionate and awakened. The days either side of Wesak are potent times for inner work, reflection, meditation and releasing.
The earthy energy of Taurus can assist us to ground our values and live them through our actions – to walk our talk. Or may lead us to stubbornly refuse to let go old fear based patterns/habits… the choice is always ours to make..The opposition from the Moon in Scorpio asks us to balance our needs to have and accumulate [Taurus] with our need to share and let go [Scorpio].
The New Moon May 21at 0 degrees Gemini is a Solar Eclipse. Solar Eclipses are powerful New Moons that can only occur when the Sun, Moon and Earth align with the transiting Nodes of the Moon. A Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon shadows all [total eclipse], or part [partial eclipse], of the Sun. In myth this was often depicted as a battle between the forces of light and dark where humanity entered into a time of uncertainty. Eventually the forces of light prevail and life continues.
Eclipses tend to be neutral energetically but they often bring to the surface whatever has been buried, hidden and repressed, especially regards the sign and house where the eclipse falls in the personal horoscope. Any personal planet that is conjuncted or opposed by the eclipse will be in the spotlight. Eclipses can herald a crisis but they also provide the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start again. In essence, Solar Eclipses are very potent New Moons that mark endings and beginnings.
The time before a solar eclipse is often a time of low energy when we are called to honour the Dark of the Moon process of letting go. If you have been able to see what needs to be released and have done some work to release your blocks and have forgiven yourself and others then you are in a good position to take advantage of the New Moon energy that comes after the eclipse. Set a conscious intention to make a new start, especially in the area of your life represented by the house where the eclipse has taken place.
All lunation’s [new moon and full moons including eclipses] have a powerful effect on the earth’s electro-magnetic field that can also affect our personal energy fields. Eclipses intensify this effect and the disruption they produce can create the opportunity to reorganize these fields in a more coherent way. It is possible to see where we are sabotaging or connecting with our soul’s desires and align ourselves with our inner truth. Meditation and quiet self reflection allows both the space for the messages from our soul /unconscious to be heard and the stillness needed to align with the creative / re-organizing potential of these celestial events.
This eclipse is widely conjunct Mercury and Jupiter, opposite Juno and square to the Neptune/ Chiron conjunction that has been around for the last few years. Old wounds – sometimes ones that you felt you have dealt with [Neptune/ Chiron] – may come up and require healing and forgiveness, especially regards our intimate relationships [Juno] and / or things that may have been said [Mercury] by yourself or others. It is time to let go guilt [Neptune] and old toxins [Chiron] that pollute our lives and forgive or ask for forgiveness. GOOD LUCK!
This eclipse falls on Australia’s South Node on our 2nd house. This suggests the spotlight is on the nation’s wealth, finances and resources… especially those that we have ‘inherited’ and relate to past patterns.
In traditional astrology eclipses are said to be more powerful in the areas where they fall but modern astrology takes a different viewpoint. This eclipse will be visible mainly over China,Russia and North America. The Moon’s shadow will almost cover the Sun but there will be a slight halo effect as at this time the moon is closer to the earth and will not totally cover the solar disk.
If your birthday is five days either side of the solar eclipse it could mark the end of a period of difficulty. It will be very empowering to set new intentions for your life and create a small ritual to honor this event.
