Sun In The Second House – The Focus of Identity on Resources and Values

The Sun in the chart is closely related to the ego. The second house, associated with money, means that the establishment of earning ability will be of prime importance to this person. Also, among their number, some of these people may excel at teaching others how to improve or stabilize their finances as well.

The second house is often referred to as the money house. It does, however, include innate talents and personal values as well as raw materials, natural resources, etc. With the Sun in the second, the personal values of the individual are usually identified with strongly. They are frequently able to establish themselves securely in their pursuits. The financial side of life is normally quite stable.

A person with the Sun in the second house needs, above all, to satisfy the primary requirements, that is food, affection and money, as well as the need for stability and security. For this reason, it becomes indispensable for them to live within a limited territory, peopled by those who meet their emotional needs. The subject himself instinctively “chooses” those who will enter and become part of the clan; he is the leader who, with generosity and optimism, but also possessiveness, tries to keep the group united.

If, however, the Sun is wounded, notwithstanding the person’s efforts and commitment in this regard, he will fail to meet these needs, and it may happen that, during the course of his life, he will often change habitat, and with it his companions, always looking back on the previous one with regret.

Money is symbolised in the second house, that is, money earned by the subject, since the presence of the Sun stimulates the person to work hard and earn well; the fields to which he is most attracted are the typical Taurean ones.

These characteristics are deeply imprinted in the subject by the experience of the first six years of life, represent by the second house.

Sun In the 2nd House: Positive Traits

You are likely to identify with what you have. This is usually material, but it may be nonmaterial also. For instance, if you identify with your value system, you feel that you are what you value. Most people with Sun in the Second House, however, will take their identity from what and how much they possess. If you possess much, you are likely to hold yourself in high esteem. If you possess little, you may suffer from lack of self-esteem. One defense against low self-esteem is to value what you have, whether it is great or little, because the more you consider that your possessions are valuable, the more self-worth you experience. ((Gargatholil))

On the positive side, if they look within for their sense of security they can learn to be giving people and share with those passing through their lives. They learn to express themselves in a warm and open manner. Appreciation of money and possessions does not rule their lives. It should be remembered that it is not money but the love of money that was once said to be the root of all evil. It is the challenge of these people to use these resources productively, constructively and charitably. With maturity and a bit of wisdom, they may do so.

With a second house Sun, the attributes that must be developed are those of strength, courage, nobility, etc. These are the aforementioned traits (Sun) that are within, which will foster security (second) for the individual regardless of the amount of wealth in the person’s life.

With this placement, we find the need for the individual to find and define for themselves what security means to them on a personal basis. Rather than looking to others for security, they must look within themselves to find what they seek. For this position of the Sun, this would seem to be imperative. When any planet is posited within a house, it is recommended that the planetary energies be used there as this is the person’s most natural avenue of success in that area of life.

Once the Sun in the Second House people set a goal for themselves they tend to pursue it, sometimes against the advice of others, to what can be a bitter end. To fail to do so will mean these people will usually suffer a loss of pride. These traits are related to the natural sign of the house, Taurus, and its affinity for willful obstinacy.

Sun In 2nd House: Negative Traits

Though financial security is important to Sun in the 2nd House individuals, they should be cautioned against valuing money and possessions for their own sake and possibly becoming overly materialistic. They make good managers but, here again, if they become too complacent they may refuse to take risks that could broaden their horizons. Over-indulgence is another caution that should be heeded.

One of the more important lessons for these individuals to learn is the proper use of the money and/or resources available to them. This should not be merely for personal gain either, but for the benefit of all. The Sun Sign will give clues to how these people will go about acquiring money and resources and how they will most likely put them to use. They are, on the positive side, usually quite generous individuals.

An issue that you are likely to face, particularly early in life, is determining what it is that you value. If you never address this issue, then the super-ego and societal conditioning are likely to make this determination for you. This will most likely result in you placing a high on material acquisitions because that is what this society conditions us to value. The more you determine your own values, autonomously, the less conditioned your identity will be. (Gargatholil)

If this position of the Sun is afflicted, they may feel that they can achieve status in the eyes of the world by wealth alone rather than through their deeds. They may squander resources for ego gratification or display. They may cling to people, and their happiness may be dependent upon their attachments to people or possessions.

Sun in the 2nd House & the type of men a women is attracted to

For a woman, there is the chance of meeting a partner among the people who are part of the clan, or through them, and who carries out an activity connected to the second house.

Sun in the 2nd House & the perception of the father

As father, the Sun in the second house indicates a figure who is essentially concerned to provide for the primary needs of the son, and so he will be a hard worker who is careful over the family finances, if the luminary is harmonious; if, on the other hand, it is wounded, it means that the father has not succeeded in reaching these objectives, creating instability within the son.
